History

There is no doubt that Las Vegas is relatively young city, being established in 1905, and officially became a city in 1911. This city is proved to be the larges one, founded in the 20^th century, and nowadays it is the most populous and capital city of Nevada, one of the states of the United States of America.

The city of Las Vegas is also known under the name “The meadows” and there is a particular historical background for that. In the 1800s areas of the Las Vegas Valley contained artesian wells that supported extensive green areas or Meadows and hence the name Las Vegas, which was given by Spaniards who used the water in that very area.

In 1928 the government appropriated funds in sum of $ 165 million for the Boulder Canyon Project, a huge flow of those who wished to find a high-paid job rushed in the direction of the future giant. All of them were eager to build the world’s largest gravity dam. It is located 40 miles from Las Vegas and named Hoover Dam. Its construction began in 1931 and this very year can be considered by right to be the year of the establishment of real huge metropolis, which now is one of the biggest ones all over the world. The construction of this dam was finished in 1935, and since that very time it has been a seducing attraction for residents, tourists, seeking to contemplate that giant.
